Saturday, Part the Second

Because Blogger was unhappy.

SVENGOOLIE.

It's Rankin/Bass time! King Kong Escapes is the movie tonight, complete with a character named Doctor Who...er...Hu, dubbed by Paul Frees. Mie Hama, who played Kissy Suzuki in You Only Live Twice is the eee-VIL Madame Piranha. Rhodes Reason plays Cmdr. Roundeyes or somesuch (Carl Nelson).

Kong and his main squeeze.

Kong reminds me of the Bumble in "Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer", except that he does not bounce

Mechani-Kong DEFINITELY does not bounce.

The amusing bit is the provenance of Mechani-Kong:

Yes, kiddies, he was taken from the Rankin/Bass "King Kong" cartoon, as was Doctor Who/Hu, by way of the Bosley clinic.

Here is an amusing little entry.

Happy Sunday!

You would think that Mecha-Kong would've been a concept worth using more than once (perhaps some other country creating it to battle Japan's Mecha-Godzilla). The overall design's just too good to gather dust.

(Maybe someday we can get a live-action "Tom of T.H.U.M.B.")
