The button-down Vermont innkeeper

Brief but piquant: Newhart is soon to be released on DVD (first season, anyway).

*Pause for Happy Dance*

Not since the days of The Jack Benny Program on radio has there been such an off-beat yet self-consistent world. The weirdness of the denizens of Norwich, Vermont, and the desperate attempts by the transplanted New Yorkers to relate normally to them is a delight and a wonder. Bob Newhart dead-pans his way through three brothers who share a brain, feckless yuppies, clueless town councilmen, an officious constable, the man-hungry librarian, and still manages to pen do-it-yourself books.

If you need to laugh, get this set.
...and you DO need to laugh!

I'm Larry, this is Daryl, and this is my other brother Daryl.. Man I always got a kick out of that. There's a place in Lima, Oh I used to get pizza and other stuff from when I was on brak there. They were next to a drop lot that P&G used to use there. The name of the place? Daryl & Daryl's...

So many TV shows, movies, or what have try so hard for 'quirky' characters. This was one of the few shows that did it well.

Wait... this was another Gerry Anderson project, isn't it?

No? Oh, wait... it was based on that series by Larry Niven... with the bar and all those aliens?

Mmm, maybe not. Ah, I got it - this was the show, where that guy, who lost his heart in an accident, was transformed into a cyborg with a brand new mechanical heart that also gave him super capillary powers.

Newhart, get it? New-HEART!

HA HA HA HA HA (snort!) HA HA HA HA (snort) HA HA HA HA HA!

Vidad I think you've been reading/watching too much science fiction.

I can't believe I just typed that.

[Outraged Aardvark points a shaking index finger at Rigel and shouts]

Too much science fiction?

I think that Rigel should make amends to our goddess SciFi for his blasphemy. I recommend that he be forced to read the entire Dune series, including spin-offs like "Son of Dune," "Dune's Uncle, "Showdown at the Dune Corral" and "M.C. Dunemaster and the Golden Mic." And every incarnation of the Man/Kzin wars. Including those written by people that never even met Niven. Or saw a tiger.

I rather liked "God-Claims-Adjuster of Dune".

A ripping read.

Right here is all I have to say about the new Dune sequels that have come out in recent years.

As far as my transgression against SF, simply solved. I'll just jump into my custom Delorean pump it to 88, and I'll make it as if it had never happened.

(loud crash followed by explosions).

Okay, who put that tree there? I knew I should've gotten the hover conversion.

Ahhh...Kevin J. Anderson.

Whore to the SF stars.
