Sunday night was a TREAT!

The much ballyhooed debut of "Tin Man" graced the aetheric flux tonight, thanks to the SciFi channel. It will be three two-hour events. Alan Cumming plays "Glitch" the cerebrotomized analogue to the Scarecrow of "The Wizard of Oz", and for the life of me, he sometimes channeled the moves and looks of Ray Bolger in that immortal role, and it didn't come across like mere mimicry. Think of The Scarecrow by way of an 80's discotheque. That's the look.

Zooey Deschanel, on the other hand (remember the Love Interest in "Elf"?) should be billed as the "Wooden Woman" of Tin Man. Gerry Anderson got better emotions out his actors. Ms. Deschanel plays "DG" whose dreams presage her journey to OZ, or as they say...the "Outer Zone".

You can read IMDB as well as I can, so I shall not belabor the plot points. This is a work produced by the Roberts.Halmi, the creative team who brought us the "Noah" mini-series, that had Lot and Noah as contemporaries. Noah picks Lot up from a raft in the middle of the Flood. (Cue God doing Don Adams voice in echoe chamber: :Missed it by that much!".)

This really plays like "Wizard of Oz meets Flash Gordon meets BioShock", and I mean the current SciFi channel Flash. The next seismic event you feel will be L. Frank Baum spinning in his grave, likely approaching relativistic speeds.

Neal Boortz hates Glenn Beck. Beck's middle-America goofy cheer is to Boortz like having a root canal done with a slow Black & Decker drill and a rusty nail.

A bent one.

It is a shame that Boortz is in bed with Beck in mutual antipathy toward Ron Paul.
And why? They are both beating the neocon drum of "fighting the Terrace threat of Islamofascism" or somesuch. In fact, Boortz is behaving like the one-issue voters he decries. Really Neal, you gotta stop acting like a pro-lifer!

I like Beck, and I think Boortz, while smart, is a boor. I also plan on voting for Paul in the Primary. The P.I.G.'s(party in Gov) on BOTH sides are doing their level best to marginalize him and paint him as a kook. If believeing that the Constitution actually means something is being a kook, then so am I!

Well, Billiam, ya can't spell "Boortz" without "boor"!

My "Pro-life" comment was merely a barb, as Boortz is soft-headed on the issue.

I have ZERO trust in government to deal with the abortion issue. (We are where we are because of the Feds.) The ONLY true solution is to change individual minds and hearts.

Count me in as a kook, too. Down with fascism - up with the Constitution!

To "Tin Man": Mr. Baum was of the opinion that you could contact him via a medium--he was into Theosophy--so I suppose they could give him a ring and see what he thinks? (No, I'm not serious about their chances of success...)

And as for Mr. Boortz, didn't he write that book defending the "FairTax"? I'm running into some serious problems with its application, so I tend to wonder just what he's thinking.

Mrs P, I have it on good authority that "The Wizard of OZ" was a tract in support of the Gold Standard.

As to the Fair Tax, I would be curious as to your problems with it. Have you read the book? (That is not a snarky question.)

I don't think the book is out yet, IIRC, but if it is, I might have to. What I'm using as source material is the website of the organization itself, www.fairtax.org.

I haven't read the proposed legislation, it's true, but based on at least their FAQs page, I'm seeing a lot of unpleasant snags, such as what might happen to the home-construction industry and its dependent professions.

I do plan to write a blog post about my misgivings. May I give a link when I have it up?

Mrs. Pilgrim, there IS a book out (the original), and I will happily send you a gratis copy.
Email your address, and I'll send it.

ALL that giving your address will net you is the book, and maybe a Christmas card. No MLM schemes. Promise.

There is a follow-up book coming out in Feb., I think, answering the naysayers, and dealing with pertinent questions that have surfaced.

Truth be told, I cannot imagine any deleterious effect on the housing and construction industries.

Link away! I should like to add you to my blogs o' note. As you see, I'm picky. Or just too inept to add a line of HTML.

I appreciate the offer, Aardvark, but I'll pick up the book among the others of my "wish list" shortly.

I also am going to get myself M. Stanton Evans' biography of McCarthy and Vox Day's new book.

But as to the question of possible detriment to the construction industry, let me ask you this: If you were home-shopping, and you were offered two houses--pretty much identical in all factors--but one cost (let's say) 15% more, which would you buy?

(I'm accounting for the supposed IRS-added cost in that hypothetical. My husband's family is in carpentry and other professions, and they tell me that federal income taxes don't account for a really significant portion of the cost of a new home.)

I'm still working on it...
