Do as I say...

Hypocrite!!!

Few words spring quicker to the lips of those who fundamentally disagree with you. The current meaning is: You do not perfectly adhere to your faith or system of ethics.

Wrong-o, Mary Lou.

Hypocrisy consists of feigning one standard, then not practicing it. Hipokrites: Stage actor. One playing a role.

Of course, accuracy in language is no longer the virtue it once was, Humpty Dumpty.

Something Eville This Way Comes...

I am at EvilleCon in Evansville IN. It is a good little con, peculiar in its way. When you come to Indiana, you know you're not in Kansas anymore. Virtually every othe con sets its Dealer Room hours starting at 10AM. EvilleCon opens at 9AM. Today (Saturday) it is open 'til 8PM. 11 hours of occasionally selling shirts. This makes the hours I have to sleep precious. I was in bed by 11 last night, which is unheard-of (1AM is usual for me.) The hotel is a Holiday inn, with the open commons area surrounded by rooms. Last night the festivities went on past 1:30. No indoor voices.

I began to understand the impulse of climbing a bell tower and then opening fire.

I had some of those foam earplugs, but I do not like them, for they serve to magnify my internal sounds, the gurglings, the susurration of my own breathing. I habitually have radio on low at night, but I eschew the use of earbuds, so there we are. The loss of hearing in my left ear has advantages. I burrow my right ear into the pillow, and my left ear picks up the closer sounds, muffling the sounds of the madding crowd. Winning, as they say.

That said, EvilleCon is a great little con. They had us print their con shirts, and LOVED them! Yaaaay! It has grown a lot since they started. They are now filling up this largish Holiday Inn. The area after Registration is filled with classic arcade games, DDR types, an Original TMNT with the 80's hair April O'Neill graphic. Like that.

Then there's the Homestuck cosplayers....

We are having an enthusiastic reception of our shirts, which is always for the win!

Have a grand week-end!

And now, a musical interlude.

Because, well, why not?

UPDATE

Two of my neighbors are "vaping". There is nothing manly about this activity. The method of holding, and the motions appear furtive, as though expecting a maiden aunt's claw to fasten on their ears at any moment. Not a proponent of ciggies, but man.... If someone showed them a video of how they look whilst vaping, they would be cured instanter.

The time has come, the Aardvark said...

...to talk of many things.

We have been wonderfully busy. Very. Makes me appreciate my pillow more.
---------------------
Going Paleo with my youngest son. Paleo: it's like Atkins, only the cool kids do it.
 --------------------
The Aardvark heads to EvilleCon this weekend. No, he has not gone to the Dark Side (there are NO cookies there...they're DARK!), but rather is going to Evansville, IN. I like the place, and these guys put on a good-and-enthusistic anime convention.

When Spielberg chose Indiana as the location for Roy Neary's lineman exploits, he clearly did not realize that INDIANA IS AS FLAT AS A PLATE!
---------------------
The holographic Doctor on "Voyager" is the most popular Doctor in the franchise, followed by "Bones" McCoy. Dr, Pulaski is dead last.
---------------------
Well, a few things, actually. Next time.

On the Give-ment

Whenever I hear the standard "Romans 13 gives Government carte blanche" interpretation, I think of God's warning when Israel threw Him under the chariot and said "We want a king like the OTHER nations.":

"6 Samuel was upset to hear the leaders say they wanted a king, so he prayed about it. 7 The Lord answered:

Samuel, do everything they want you to do. I am really the one they have rejected as their king. 8 Ever since the day I rescued my people from Egypt, they have turned from me to worship idols. Now they are turning away from you. 9 Do everything they ask, but warn them and tell them how a king will treat them.

10 Samuel told the people who were asking for a king what the Lord had said:

11 If you have a king, this is how he will treat you. He will force your sons to join his army. Some of them will ride in his chariots, some will serve in the cavalry, and others will run ahead of his own chariot.[c] 12 Some of them will be officers in charge of a thousand soldiers, and others will be in charge of fifty. Still others will have to farm the king’s land and harvest his crops, or make weapons and parts for his chariots. 13 Your daughters will have to make perfume or do his cooking and baking.

14 The king will take your best fields, as well as your vineyards, and olive orchards and give them to his own officials. 15 He will also take a tenth of your grain and grapes and give it to his officers and officials.

16 The king will take your slaves and your best young men and your donkeys and make them do his work. 17 He will also take a tenth of your sheep and goats. You will become the king’s slaves, 18 and you will finally cry out for the Lord to save you from the king you wanted. But the Lord won’t answer your prayers."

'Nuff said.

"I'm in the Ar-my now..."

...Or at least near it. This snowy winter day finds me at the Valor Center in Ft. Campbell, KY, at the Anime and Comic Con, one of Wes Tillander's shows. Listening to Wes talk and tell con stories is almost worth the price of admission. It is a cold, grey day, and flaky. It is rumored that Herb McCaulla, Wes and I started Southron fandom just to make a buck off of 'em. I can neither confirm or deny this.

I have broken my cardinal rule: If the con has anything to do with comics, I do not go. Generally comic and gaming shows are fiscal death for us, but I have done decently well at Wes's cons in the past.

I do wonder why comic dealers must fit the "Comic Book Guy" template.

I just heard the dreaded lament: "I wish I had money.". Le sigh. And now I hear the crying child serenade.

I am staying at a Super 8 motel, not my first choice, but turns out that pets are verboten there. It's stock just climbed in my estimation. It is newly renovated, and clean, with the standard free breakfast, including turpentine OJ.

Chunky Kiki is chunky.

 Egregious "L" sighting.

BROKE THE ICE one hour, forty-five into the con.

I grow weary of Trek fandom my age (or at least much of it). They behave as though Trek is the only fandom. The anime kids are far more ecumenical in their interests, with Doctor Who right up there with Evangelion and Homestuck.
