Best free show in the world: Saturday night in the lobby of the Atlanta Hyatt Regency during Dragon*Con.

Free show, or freak show?

Considering the way some of the women dress (or almost dress) at these cons nowadays, I tend to use descriptions other than "freak show". But, as this is a family site . . .

Good grief! She looks just like Dot Warner!

Yeah. I was pretty amazed. And their whiteface was WHITE! It didn't look like they made faceprints in the flour canister.

@ Michael: (Scotty voice) There be TROLLOPS here!

"There be TROLLOPS here!"

It's those late teen/twentysomethings cosplaying as Yoko (Gurren Lagann) or Misty (Pokemon) that get my attention!

Maybe more AlGump cultists will wake up now.

@Jay --- What gets my attention is that we're finally breeding SF fans who actually do justice to the costumes they're wearing (recalling a particular Dragon*Con where there was not one, but TWO rather nice-looking Zatannas wandering around).

Whatfore art these "Cons"? Seriously. Yeah, while not having led a sheltered life at all, I have lived a linear life, one in which "con" has no meaning not including a rip-off or criminal, past or present. Be... gentle. :p

@Doom- Con=Convention.

I attend anime conventions as a dealer, selling our super-cool-and-groovy t-shirts. I do a few science fiction cons as well. Michael refers to Dragon*Con, the largest sci fi and fantasy con in the SE, held in Atlanta.

And yes, Michael, Zatanna for the win!

@Galt- "Maybe more AlGump cultists will wake up now." In a different context, Paul wrote: "They exchanged the truth about God for a lie, and worshiped and served created things rather than the Creator—who is forever praised. Amen. " Pretty apt. Cultists indeed!

@ Michael--- Not familiar with the DC universe, I had to look up Zatanna. I SEE WHAT YOU MEAN.

There should be a rule stating that one should be within 20 lbs of the character one is cosplaying (I always go as a psycopathic killer. They look like anybody.).
It's a bit off-putting seeing Sailor Full Moon walking by.

@ Doom --- You ought to try a con out. You'll understand what they mean by "The Good, The Bad, & The Ugly".

Or Sailor Bubba...or Man-Faye.

Here is our shirt that 'splains it all:

Hmm, I really didn't think there would be (m)any cons in Utah. It seems there are quite a few, actually. I'm a bit busy and money-challenged, atm, but... I'll keep that in mind. The things you learn being snoopy! Not Snoopy... although... Never mind.

@Jay --- every so often someone at DC tries to do away with Zatanna's fishnet stockings. The resulting howl of anguish from the (almost entirely male) readership usually makes quick work of such a decision.

@Weatherly --- if I ever worked up the nerve to attempt a costume (line up those cocktails, Honey), I figure my best bet would be the Mole Man (I already have the cape), the Owl or the Penguin.

The Aardvark said...

MOLE MAN FTW!!!!!

@ Michael - Let's hear it for Spandex! YAY!

@ Aardvark - Sailor Bubba? Man-Faye? Ain't they just Bee-yoo-tee-ful!?

oh wow, I was looking for photos and stumbled on this. I'm honored that you liked our costumes enough to share them! And thank you for the compliment on the makeup - It takes a lot of work. ^_^ I hope you had a fun time at the event! -Dot Warner

Sure thing, Dot!

I was the t-shirt dealer at the back, Aardvark Tees.

Your cosplay group was outstanding. I really appreciate fan effort. (And I should, 'cos my kids cal ME "Dadoo"!

My single suggestion: have Dr. S do glasses with a thick clear resin or acrylic (although the paper cup bottom solution was dead brill!

lol, yeah - that was last minute with the glasses. He was originally going to be the Clown from clown and out and harass wakko but we couldn't find the right color overalls for it, so we turned him into scratchy. But thank you so much for the compliment! And we're about to put even more effort into it - GMX and Dragoncon will be nuts - we'll have almost every character except the teacher. We're still looking for someone. I was really tempted to buy one of your shirts but people kept bugging us for photos and by the time i went back the dealer room was closed. ;.; You're one of the dealers that will be at Anime Blues Con right?

We will look into the Memphis con.
