The Rusty Robots of Rutan

The idea that humankind is essentially good will be the death of us.
---------------

Ultra-Q on Shout! Factory TV.
It was like a Fifties SF/Horror flick each week, with a real "Twilight Zone" vibe, by way of Osaka. (That's a joke).
----------------

Anyone remember Walter Cronkite's CBS series "The 21st Century"?
Anyone wanna sue CBS for being SO wrong depicting the 21st century as being exciting and cool?
I feel like I drank an ennui latte with whipped tedium on top.
-----------------

Scrawny bird sez: "Whoa, I've been sick!".
I need to know the provenance of this cartoon gag. Was it a Draft thing? There is NOTHING online that I can learn from searches.
-----------------

A private citizen leading the Lord's Prayer has NOTHING to do with "separation of church and state".
"CONGRESS shall make no law..."
------------------

Sometimes I think that the Pokemon GO A.I. was ported from the original X-Com.
------------------

MUST Dollar General smell like bargain night at a joy house?
------------------

Gun sales have dropped considerably since the Trump Ascendancy. People aren't worried about losing gun rights.
The Left should be turning cartwheels, but no. If he multiplied hot dogs and buns, they would fuss that the buns are in 8-packs, ant the hotdogs in 10-packs.
------------------

I cannot imagine that drawing tally marks on your skin with Sharpie could possibly be good for your liver.
------------------

"Hate Crime" = "X" lives matter more
------------------

I'm glad my interests go beyond politics. It wearies me to see utterly non-political posts muddied by commenters who HAVE to make some political point out of it.
To quote the Great Shat:
"GET A LIFE!".
------------------

Friend to Robert Frost: "Yeats is dead."
Frost: "Good."
------------------

I am sad that I know as much as I do about Flat Earth theory.
------------------

Advert:
"Enjoy 20/20 hearing..."
Uh huh.
------------------

"Sure, sure, sure."
------------------

Where has "Invasion of the Saucer Men" been all my life?

-----------------

Pandas are no longer on the endangered list. Maybe Panda Express will stop substituting moggy.

-----------------

"Mr. President, we must not allow a mine shaft gap!"
-----------------

I know it's foolish to ask, but must it be the binary "Ban refugees" vs, "Open the borders and let 'em all in" argument?
Maybe there are other intermediate options. The Ellis Island model appeared to work well. I mean all the proud "we were ALL immigrants" people are in fact here. Maybe we could just use the extant laws and regulations, instead of marching and punching and in the end, accomplishing nothing.
------------------

------------------

I watched "War of the Insects" whilst printing shirts late last night. The only joy I have left to me is to inflict this as broadly as possible.

We are not "essentially" good and we barely qualify as civilized. If our species manages to occasionally achieve something uplifting (e.g. space travel, the fiction of Charlotte Bronte, the Reese's Big Cup, etc.) then I consider it nothing short of a miracle.

I certainly do remember CBS' "The 21st Century". I also still have my copy of Toffler's "Future Shock". Futurism is pretty, but its batting average is way the heck pathetic.

"Where has 'Invasion of the Saucer Men' been all my life?" Although this will amaze some people, the movie was actually based on an actual published short story, "The Cosmic Frame", by Paul Fairman (another Fairman story, "Deadly City", was filmed as "Target Earth". Trust me on this one. The movie was better.)

(Fairman also co-wrote "The Runaway Robot" with Lester del Rey.)

Excuse me. Correction. Fairman's story "Deadly City" was better than the movie "Target Earth".

Your capacity for good is a metaphysical opportunity in the fallen world, which resembles a truth in physics. For every action, there is an equal and opposite reaction. Whether at home or abroad... or a broad. :p
----------
I know nothing. Twice.
----------
You must have gotten the opiate laced one. My version is filled with horror, blood, screaming, and a threat to civilization through academic and media agression which has poisoned everything from politics to the professions. Trade?
----------
I know nothing. Solly. *bow*
----------
Most things said to be involved with the separation of church and state have anything to do with anything or islam would not be being pushed by those who make most of those claims against Christianity. The only thing I have ever seen, truly, is that the goverment shall not pick a church or faith. No more, no less.
----------
I know nothing, about half. The original X-com was a great game. Limited as 'nation building' games often are... flawed I should say (imho). However, a great game otherwise. About GO I know nothing and less.
----------
Joy house? I am so far out of so many loops I fear. Is that something married men learn of, are taught? Come to fear? :p
----------
If I could, I would still be buying. Limited because I once asked the v.a. to handle my finances. Basically the same problem with the ss limits zero put on the old, only just for vets. I don't see Trump fixing that, oddly.
----------
I know nothing.
----------
Right? Worse when, especially by their actions through murdering each other and genocide through abortion, they prove they don't even believe it. Right?

Well, I am trying. I have honestly given up on politics. Good or bad. Like what I see, but believe that could change in a second. Still, when surrounded by politics, I speak my mind. Consider it a reflection. Don't shine, I won't reflect... mostly.
----------
Didn't know Yeats, am just about to dig into Frost... if I live long enough to read his works. Then again, poets aren't... always... friends. Was that politics, religion, poetic opinion, or? Scientists (real ones, of the past) didn't always like each other either. Humans are so... human. :p
----------
I don't know where it is now, but I used to love the notion of it. If you realize that it was a punch on the nose to science, which is just as asinine as it claims religion to be, and often the punch comes as a reaction to sciences attack on religion, then you might come to love the notion. I was more into the 'fake moonlanding' group, for similar reasons.

Oh, the other thing? Claiming a flat earth? Calls people out of believing something just because they hear it. Prove it! Find a way to prove, for yourself, that the world is round... in some way. If you can't, then believing the earth is round is just... that... belief. Can your prove the world is round? Not cameras others use, or "satellites", or the works or testimony of others. Can YOU prove the world is round? No? Well, then... *sigh*
----------
Just understand, advertising isn't about truth. It DID get your attention. Good, bad, just spell it right.
----------
*blink blink*
----------
I know nothing.
----------
Uhrm. Did you know... we, the US, has started exporting pandas... to China? So much for China becoming the new world order manchurian nation. :p
----------
I never know when you are being funny, funny funny, or not so much. Sometimes. *digging* :p
----------
Personally, I don't want other options until demographics are settled rightly. I am not interested in bringing in immigrants who have 12 children into a population that has less than one. Fix that latter, then consider anything else. Though, like I have any real say. Part enough Navajo and Lakota to read the tea leaves, Lone Ranger. Didn't have a choice back then, either, obviously.
----------
Flag day? I could look it up, but I'll just beg for translation. *beg*
----------
No, no, no. I wasn't dropped on my head, but I think I saw too many shows like that growing up. Same, same.

Don't... tempt me, Frodo. Sometimes I have the time, inclination, or just can't help myself. Though... it seems you understand.

You so entertain me, Doom. In a GOOD way!!
---------------

Michael you have disappointed.
Those three little words.
You KNOW this.

Michael W said...

Possibly not. I've been having a rough week.

The Aardvark said...

Hope this week is an improvement!

Michael W said...

We'll see. I'm close to completing editing a beast of a novel. Meanwhile, one of my close friends has lost his job (and this several weeks after Denise lost hers). But I've got a song in my heart. Unfortunately it's Carly Simon's "Nobody Does It Better".

Invasion of the Saucermen? Try Larry Buchannons' "wretched re-make" (His words.) from ten years later, The Eye Creatures.

The Aardvark said...

Jay, you're too late.

They even spoofed Larry B's version on "Freakazoid".
