When is vore not vore?

When it's Haré + Guu!

The boy is Haré, a ten-year-old who lives in the jungle with his mother. Guu, the girl, comes into their home to live as she has no parents. Her appearance is cute and sweet, very kawaii. They play together, then go to sleep. Next morning, Haré finds that Guu has changed drastically:

Her friendly, vivacious nature is now dour, ominous and flat. And she eats things. whole bananas. People. Animals. Perhaps eats is incorrect. She swallows them, and they enter a strange Wackyland
world inside.

Full Image

There is a couple, a weird multi-legged cat, a menagerie of animals, all of which Guu can hwarf up when she chooses, with no harm beyond a time discontinuity. Guu is Not As She Seems, a liminal creature, an intermediate being.

Hilarity ensues, as Haré proceeds to stress over protecting his little world, family and friends against Guu's uncertain intentions. He is a little boy carrying a heavy weight. Guu is the trickster, bringing chaos into the village, and into Haré's life.

I bought this set back in aught-six, as I recall, from the producers of the English dub, AN. I watched a couple of episodes, then became distracted by busy-ness, or stuff, or ooh, look, a KITTY!

My shirt-printing life has shifted to the after-six PM-til-dawn mode, and so I have lots of time to be entertained whilst printing, with a pistol by my side. Yeppers, lookit ME, I'm trendy! (No I do not carry it into Publix, pointing out good prices with my laser sight...I am many things, but yahoo is not one of them. Neither am I a Houyhnhnm, but that's a horse of a different color.) I decided to give the series another try. Very happy with the results.

Haré's mom left (her very wealthy) home, pregnant by an unrevealed man and rejected by her father. She winds up on the jungle island, gives birth and raises Haré. The community welcomes them. I am currently halfway through the series, and will not do spoilers. If you enjoy bizarre shows, wacky, and off-beat, you may well enjoy Haré + Guu.

But stay away from vore. That's just creepy.

A thought.

Any group that holds itself above criticism by virtue of being What It Is, whether by religion, ethnicity, political stance, nationality or whatever other subdivision, can use that to hide all manner of secrets and evil behind its identity. Transparency is devoutly to be wished, so long as it does not include "my" favored faction.

The Deadly Mantis, and other diversions.

SATURDAY

Starting the day with a BLT breakfast always bodes well.

No lunch (LATE breakfast!), and now a very broad, very flat, crisped hamburger with tomato, onion, avocado, pickle, Mister Mustard, and....

We have a Quizno's which has been owned by different people over the years. The previous owners were some very nice folks from India. It is now under the care of a guy who is youth minister friendly (not in the sense of catering over much to youth ministers, but that he has the friendliness of one). He and his staff are top notch, and aim to please. I asked once if I could buy some of their pepper sauce, and he said yes. A week ago, I renewed my request, and he said he would find a container for it. He brought out an entire sealed bag of the stuff, as he received it. I asked how much, I agreed to terms, so now I have Quizno's 3-Pepper Sauce for home!

...Batch 83 sauce.

Nom!!

We are watching The Deadly Mantis. William Hopper as a paleontologist named Nedrick. How sad his parents hated him so. He logics out What The Mysterious Chunk Is so fast, I thought he was Benedict Cumberbatch. Craig Stevens as Col. Joe Parkman who Gets The Girl. This is Cold War B-cinema at its best, with a 3-hour travelogue narrated by Marvin Miller at the beginning, detailing our layered radar screens, showing how we were safe from surprise attack by them Russkies. Well,, not 3-hours, but long enough. Now, most online reviewers whinge about the pedantic portions of this movie, but not I. It makes the film a true period piece, with the reassurances from Whollyodd that We Are Safe from Russian rapine.

The effects work is decent...light-years beyond, say,  The Giant Claw. I only saw one wire in the scene where the mantis attacks an Italian fishing boat because it wanted a little Eye-talian. Mama mia!
That is equal to the one boom-mike shadow appearance in ol' Ned's office. But who's counting? The most effective, umm, effect is when the Mantis lands on the Washington Monument and crawls up to the top. They used a scale monument, and a real mantis, and it worked!

The still does not do it justice.

The large mantis puppet work is decently done...the world has a couple of years yet before Gerry Anderson makes the scene.

Here is one of the models used for the flying sequences:

Apparently DDT wins the day.

Sailor Moon is back! Pretty Guardian Sailor Moon Crystal is debuting 5 July, and is apparently a Big Thing. Note that it will have an episode showing every two weeks.

Every
two

weeks.

The howls of fans are miasma-splitting. "We must wait TWO WEEKS for the next episode!!!" This may be seppuku-inducing. (Remember kiddies: he who dies with the least noise, wins!) Sorry. They will get ZERO sympathy from me.

I'm a Sherlock fan.

Captain Howdy was the demon who spoke to Blair through a (not pink) Ouija board in "The Exorcist"

"Acid Thaw Pony" is an anagram of "Captain Howdy".

Pony. Hmmmmm....

This could explain a lot.

Bee seeing you....

http://www.wmconnolley.org.uk/bees/DSCN6624-bee-close_1200x1200.JPG

Had to do some hive work this even. The bees were quiet, but when you dismantle the hive, some fall to ground. I was working on opening the top, and I felt--heat--in my right knee pit. I was wearing jeans, but got bold and did not put on my Tyvek coverall. Then I felt considerably more heat, uttered a couple of unfortunate syllables...consider this my confession and repentance...and began to demonstrate why disco was never for me; then proceeded to drop trou in the twilit sideyard. While not a Mormon, I DO affect modest undergarments, so all was well.

I hotfooted it to the house, with the Dread Dormomoo examining my jeans. Sure enough, a bee had climbed in from the ground and taken umbrage at the decor. She found a nail file (which finding re-defined "eternity") and found the offending barb, and did the *FLICK* thing to remove the stinger and venom sac without injecting the full load. AAAAHHHH! Then she made a baking soda and water paste, bandaged it all up, and we then put on our full, very hot, spacesuits.

I must truly have the soul of a beekeeper. Despite the pain (and I have a VERY low threshold!) I felt far worse for the little worker who was just defending her hive.

She acquitted herself with honor.

----------------------
Earlier in the week, we saw a large cluster of bees on their hive "front porch". We approached carefully, for we have learned that they are not fond of approaches from the front of the hive. Ask Fake, one of our yard cats.

Then we saw IT!  One of the workers, laden with pollen in her saddle bags...WAS DANCING!
She was doing the classic "This is where I found it, this is how far you must fly to get there" dance.

Like "Wild Kingdom" it was.

A newfound respect

Important website

This website details the peaceful and loving murders, gang-rapes, beheadings, bombings and stonings by Islamists. I cannot say "extremists", because I have not found any others standing against what these people are doing.

In other news: Western secularists supply red shirts to girls and young women in Islamic countries.

The Show.

My show, "Minsk, Pinsk, and the Bolshoi Ballet...Too Much Russian Around" on "The Aardvark's Plumbline" is airing 05/01/2014 on BlogTalkRadio. See the details and set a reminder at http://tobtr.com/s/6395939. http://www.facebook.com/event.php?eid=288364771332216

Inherent evil, or just the way we are wired?

I am prejudiced.

There. I said it. My heart feels cleansed.

I do not like football. I do not attend games. I do not paint my face in My Team's Colors. Unless there are alternative reasons to hang out with them (members of my church, business contacts, like that) I do not hob-nob with football fans. It is not an interest of mine...I find it boring.

The evil part is that they do not hob-nob with me, either. All the enlightenment they could receive about Cold War Era science fiction, anime, the Printing of Shirts, my Political Views...well if they can't be bothered to better themselves...Aardvark's Burden.

An anecdote regarding the Way We May Be Wired:

During the filming of Planet of the Apes in 1967, Charlton Heston noted “an instinctive segregation on the set. Not only would the apes eat together, but the chimpanzees ate with the chimpanzees, the gorillas ate with the gorillas, the orangutans ate with the orangutans, and the humans would eat off by themselves. It was quite spooky.”
James Franciscus noticed the same thing filming Beneath the Planet of the Apes in 1969. “During lunch I looked up and realized, ‘My God, here is the universe,’ because at one table were all the orangutans eating, at another table were the apes, and at another table were the humans. The orangutan characters would not eat or mix with the ape characters, and the humans wouldn’t sit down and eat with any one of them.
“I remember saying, ‘Look around — do you realize what’s happening here? This is a little isolated microcosm of probably what’s bugging the whole world. Call it prejudice or whatever you want to call it. Whatever’s different is to be shunned or it’s frightening or so forth.’ Nobody was intermingling, even though they were all humans underneath the masks. The masks were enough to bring out our own little genetic natures of fear and prejudice. It was startling.”
(From Joe Russo and Larry Landsman, Planet of the Apes Revisited, 2001.)

I believe that Franciscus is overstating the issue, echoing his own prejudice. What he saw was not based upon fear or bigotry (which term more accurately portrays his distaste for what he observed, I think) What he saw was not shunning, it was grouping. The chimps were not hooting and throwing... tapioca pudding at the orangutans, nor did the gorillas throw commissary furniture at the humans. The human tendency, prosthetic makeup or no, is to hang out with those most like themselves. This is visceral. Families, clans, tribes, countries, ethnicities...when the Omicronians arrive to enlighten us, well, they will likely sit to themselves. Hairless apes go against the grain for them, and well, those creepy mouth tentacles are off-putting to us. Or me. The animated vermicelli thing is not conducive to my good appetite.

After awhile, it will become a badge of honor for an Omicronian to say "Humans?" Why, yes, some of my best friends...."

Output....

So I'm off Facebook, and here is my second blog entry in two days.

Heh.

So, productivity is instantly up, plus, I have found better online entertainment. I've rediscovered James Lileks website, and it is glorious! He has retooled the thousands of pages For The Future!

Lileks is a Midwest moderate who smokes cigars, and digs good movies, bad movies, and has a Thing for chasing down Production Music. I hereby evangelise for him yet again. He isn't Pacific Rim, but he's good!
----------------------
My mood is better, not being faced with political binary imbecility. I have a show planned for tonight. I may rant some more about the venality of Facebook (FB is Alex Jones to my Glenn Beck, but that's a different rant). Beck is a sucker for Continuing Revelation, which nowadays makes one a sucker for subjective feewings-oriented religious experience. Re: subjective religion-if you say that you have seen an angel on a green bicycle, who has revealed to you What the Seven Thunders Said in the Revelation, I cannot say with any authority that you did not have an experience. I can with some certainty tell you that what you saw was a phony:

3and he cried out with a loud voice, as when a lion roars; and when he had cried out, the seven peals of thunder uttered their voices. 4When the seven peals of thunder had spoken, I was about to write; and I heard a voice from heaven saying, "Seal up the things which the seven peals of thunder have spoken and do not write them."…(Rev10:3-4)

Herein is the importance of the objective Word of God: it rides herd on our subjective experiences, our dyspeptic revelations, our opinions. IF the Bible is the Word of God, then we must read with understanding, and then bow the knee to the instruction that we receive. In my meditations, in my prayer-time, I may receive impressions, or communications, or insights into Christian living. Those insights may be valid, or they may be the product of my heart, which Jeremiah defines as deceptive. I must submit these ideas, these feelings, these opinions to the discipline of the Word of God. If they do not line up with the Word (and this is why it is important to have read it, to have an acquaintance with ALL of it - even Habakkuk!) I must reject them. Did I experience them? Certainly! Are they valid spiritual counsel or guideposts? Not so much. Blaming the Ho-o-o-o-o-ly Spirit on the results of my own angst, wishful thinking, or late-night indulgence in kitchen-sink pizzas is Not According to Hoyle. My understanding runs thusly: The Spirit of God has encoded God's revelation into the Bible. He then enlightens us as to the truth that we need as we read, earnestly seeking what God has in mind for us. He does not deviate from God's will as encoded in His Word, for how could God contradict Himself? Therefore, and revelation or feeling that is contradictory to the counsel of the Word of God is suspect.

An interesting take on the phenomenon of "Holy Ghost Law" HERE.

See what happens when I don't have to swim upstream?

The unpardonable sin.

I am eschewing Facebook (again) for an indeterminate time. The rage, she has built! The absolute blithering moronity (well, it's a word, now) has made me unpleasant to be around. The Usual Suspects have tired me beyond belief with kneejerk politicking, which leads me to the title of the piece.

In a world where dismembering babies in utero is a practical sacrament, and where the public proclamation of one's (Christian) beliefs is shouted down as promoting an oppressive State Religion, when, and how, did "racism" become the ne plus ultra of social transgression? If I harbor unpleasant thoughts about one of another hue, or use a pithy vulgarism to refer to one of Particular Ethnicity, why does this cause me to be of close-to-Hitler popularity amongst society-at-large? The illiberal, the xenophobic, the intolerant -if only in word or even attitude- is roasted to a golden brown and then devoured on the table of public opinion.

Why?

Why is "being racist" such a bad thing? I am not being coy, nor disingenuous. Let's discuss this. I feel that I am adrift amidst the flotsam of disjointed prevailing sentiment. "Things fall apart; the center does not hold." There is no Pole Star to guide me through the shoals of consensus. Why is this The Thing to despise?

It seems that a culture requires something to hold it together. We have always been at war with Eurasia. Like that. The Five-Minute Hate writ large. We can agree on nothing, except someone to pillory, someone to loathe.

Someone to feel superior toward.

Is it as simple as that, or are there more complex issues at work? Inquiring minds want to know.

Keeping up....

I have pulled three all-nighters this week. Printed 'til 6AM today.

This defines "busy", I am told; a situation for which I am profoundly thankful, but it does wear on a body. I am off (!) to Knoxville for a 2-day anime and comic con this weekend. Not too far.

I grow weary of the endless whining about Bundy. I do not believe that he is in the legal "correct" column, but then, I am not a lawyer, nor do I play one on TV. (DENNY CRANE!) I always tend to err toward freedom, however. I am a liberty person, and the FedGov overreach chaps me.
--------------------------

The FDA is in process of figuring out how to regulate e-cigs.

And cigars. They wish to regulate my benign Drug of Choice. (Self-medication. We'll talk.)

THIS IS A THINKING I HAVE THUNK ABOUT. IT IS NOT AIMED AT ANY ONE PERSON OR GROUP.
---------------------------------------

Freedom, while dangerous, should be embraced.

If you wish, support, and celebrate the Government trying to ban What You Do Not Like, please bear in mind that you may do things That I Do Not Like.

Better for us to live tolerantly and amicably, I won't "X" in your presence, if you will not "Y" in mine.

Anything beyond that is meddling, and just bad form.

In other words, do unto others as you would have them do unto you.

In OTHER other words....

MYOB.

(Here is a great story by Eric Frank Russell about MYOB!) Please to read. It is FUN!)

Happy Resurrection!

Ran across an excellent piece by someone hight "Cato the Youngest":

I've been reading the story of Thomas the Skeptic (slandered by preachers as "doubting Thomas.") The funny thing about that story is, Jesus didn't flip out, but to hear most preachers and theologians go over the story, you'd think it went down like:
"Cursed art thou, unbelieving schweinhund! see? see? I got nailed up and that Longinus guy friggin' stabbed me with a spear! A spear! And he talked kinda like John Wayne."

He said "how much more blessed are those who don't see, but believe?" and that comes off passive-aggressive today in English, but in Greek it's like. wow. how...gracious and understanding.

Of all the apostles, Thomas is the most worthy of admiration. 'cause in that room, on that day, after the resurrection, he was the least among them. Tradition holds that after the Resurrection, he went and took the gospel East, maybe as far as China. We don't know.
Take comfort in the words of Publius Cornelius Tacitus, and remember what absurdity took place next in the annals of history:

"Christus, from whom the name had its origin, suffered the extreme penalty during the reign of Tiberius at the hands of one of our procurators, Pontius Pilatus, and a most mischievous superstition, thus checked for the moment, again broke out not only in Judæa, the first source of the evil, but even in Rome, where all things hideous and shameful from every part of the world find their centre and become popular. Accordingly, an arrest was first made of all who pleaded guilty; then, upon their information, an immense multitude was convicted, not so much of the crime of firing the city, as of hatred against mankind."

Is an empire of aircraft titanium and silicon any stronger than an empire of clay and iron?
Yes, much stronger, and we have nukes. Yet some of us will live to see the Cross shatter the stars over the red field of China's flag, and perhaps Thomas had a hand in that. Regardless of the propaganda, demographics are on our side.

What we believe is utterly ridiculous, and for this reason it is an unstoppable juggernaut which "brings low the mighty" and "confounds the wisdom of the wise."
Rejoice, and be humble, and laugh with the critics and the mockers and the scoffers. They know not what they do.

Happy resurrection.
