The 5000 Musings of Doctor A

---------------------

And THAT'S amusing. The microwave comes on when you open the door, now.

---------------------

Did ANYBODY like Keiko O' Brien?

---------------------

So, Patrick, it's OK to say that the US is a democracy, because through people's misuse of language, we can write it off to the evolution of language, despite the fact that the designers of our constitutional republic meant very exact and specific things in their use of their language? Is that what you're telling us here, Patrick?

I grew up in South Carolina.
"Why don't you go back?"
they asked.
"Chicken bog." I said.

Why exactly cannot selfie
                               people flip their photos
                                    taken in a mirror?

Wow.
"King Kong vs. Godzilla" sure has some terrible bluescreen work.
"Chitty Chitty Bang Bang" levels of bad.
Yet, it is a really fun movie!

SF readers: Remember Lupoff's The Adventures of Professor Thintwhistle and His Incredible Aether Flyer? Proto-steampunk!

TRIGGER WARNING
A spiritual screed for Christian-types:
There are a LOT of preachers, and a lot of voices out there, vying for your attention, and perhaps your eternal destiny. Despite the smiles, the positivity, and the promises, you will do well to examine, compare and contrast what they teach, over against what the Founder and His apostles taught. Do these teachers use buzzwords and terms foreign to Jesus, Paul, Peter, and the rest? Do they introduce "spiritual" concepts not found in Scripture? Do they challenge you to be more Christlike, loving, caring, or do they say you are fine just as you are? Is their focus on your growth, or the growth of your (and their?) bank accounts?
Jesus told His apostles-in-training regarding preaching the Good News "Freely you have received, freely give.". They were free to receive food and care from those who appreciated their service, but they were not to ask for it.
How much time does your TV Preacher of Choice spend talking about money, especially, extracting money from the Faithful? Compare that to Jesus and His apostles. A word to the wise.

Amuses me that no one

Goodness. Someone had some Wheaties this morning.

Let's see . . .

Keiko O'Brien. Well, I like Rosalind Chao. I just wish someone would give her decent roles. I also wish someone could be hired to occasionally kick Star Trek writers in the hiney. Hard. Especially in regards to ethnic traits. Just once I'd like to see someone play a Japanese who wasn't into gardening. I would've been the happiest man in the world if Keiko had been a bubble-gum chewing leather queen who was desperately fond of shojo and the music of the Violent Femmes.

(And don't get me started on how Miles O'Brien was depicted. Every time someone entered the Transporter Room I halfway expected to see Colm Meaney dressed in green, dancing a jig with a small pipe in his mouth and going "Faith and Begorrah, Captain, 'tis the Little People got into the circuits again. Too ra loo ra loo ra." Clearly a candidate for the Stafford Repp Irish Embarrassment Award.)

(I'm just grateful no Texans have yet appeared in the Trek franchise. Perhaps it's because no one has figured out how to roll tumbleweeds through space.)

"Why exactly cannot selfie people flip their photos taken in a mirror?" Bless you.

And I must regrettably report I've never encountered Lupoff yet.

You finally sat through "Capricorn One". Oh, dear. If there's anything I can do to help you recover your 124 minutes then please let me know.

"The Weapon Shops of Isher". Perhaps the reason no one talks about it is because A.E. van Vogt's not quite "hip" anymore. More to the point, reading is hardly considered the "in thing" nowadays. I'm fearful of the day when I meet someone and ask him (or her) if he's a science-fiction fan, then get a reply: "Yeah! I've seen every Transformers film that's come out". I'm fearful of what I might do in response.

But you remind me that it's been a while since I've read any of van Vogt's work. I need to at least open up "Slan" again. Thanks for the idea.

And I'm always reluctant to reflect on how big an asshole I was at 16.

(Turning 17 didn't do much to solve the problem.)

ACKSHUALLY Tripp Tucker was from Florida. That's kind of like Texas, yes?

Friendly word of advice: never tell a Texan that Florida is "kind of like Texas".

Or at least be certain of the Texan you tell.
