...And that's the way it is.

FOX to Purchase BBC

FOX TV is set to purchase the venerable British Broadcasting Company for a $5.2 billion stock swap. The BBC, producers of such fan favorites as "Doctor Who" and "Torchwood" will continue to have its base of operations in Great Britain, but, according to FOX spokesperson Lindsay Harcourt "There will be a number of programming changes to consider.". One of the

plans involves cancelling the popular "Doctor Who" franchise, replacing it with a time-travel series based upon "Bill and Ted's Excellent Adventure". Says Harcourt: "Time shows are a sci-fi staple. The replacement is in keeping with our corporate strategy." When asked about fan uproar, she said "If it is sci-fi, they'll watch it."

I'm hoping that this is just a bad joke.

Alas, yes. That you asked fills me with pride.

I was kvetching about the LuDisneyArts arrangement, and what it meant to an already moribund franchise. Then I thought about what other merger dreadfulness might be wrought, and lo, Leda sprang full-grown.

Careful examination will reveal my "tell". Fighting the brain's "autocomplete" function is key.

I think of it as art imitating life. It would happen, you know, unless summat worse happened.

When I read your comment I immediately searched up and down the internet for any sort of corroboration. I didn't find any, but this wouldn't have been the first time an acquaintance had somehow tapped into advance information.

I was dreading having to pass this news along to Denise (who's an even bigger Dr. Who fan than I am).

I admit to the cruelty of the piece, but I had a thing to get out of my system...

AND I needed to see how easy/difficult it is to start a Thing on the internet.

I understand what you were trying to accomplish. However, and speaking as someone who cares about you, I would advise against repeating such a story at conventions and similar gatherings. The collective nerves of fandom are still raw by the news of Disney's acquisition of Lucasfilm.

No worries. I knew that my audience was...select.

To put it another way, few people read me. C'est la vie! (I also messaged individuals personally on FB to allay any worries.)

Thank you. I am touched that you value my neck as do I!

"At the chiming of Big Ben, this news is brought to you by the world service of the BBC. The Broadish Brit Casting system."
